Welcome to BAIS
Welcome to the Banjul American International School! Originally known as the Banjul American Embassy School, our school was founded in 1984 by a small group of American families with support from the US Embassy. This means we have a 40 year record of providing the highest quality education in The Gambia.
In December 2016, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to change our name to the Banjul American International School to reflect our globally-minded curriculum and our diverse international community of students and parents. BAIS families always name our value of diversity and our very caring, individualized programs as the top two highights of our school.
BAIS continues to maintain a strong relationship with the US Embassy and receives an annual grant from the Office of Overseas Schools at the US State Department. We are proud to be the only independently accredited school in The Gambia, with full accreditation through 2030 by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
In 2020, BAIS opened a full U.S. High School program and have had small but successful graduating classes as follows:

- Accepted Early Decision to a ‘little Ivy’ University ranked #5 in the USA
Class of 2024
- 3 Graduates (1 Graduated at Semester)
- Applying to universities in the USA and the Netherlands
